The Edge comenta en Propaganda: Empezamos esta con Brian Eno. Era un riff de Bono sobre unos acordes preciosos de Brian. Bono y Jacknife Lee revisaron el tema y, como un hombre de jazz, Bono se entregó por completo. Totalmente desbocado. Tuve muy poco que ver con este tema, pero es una de mis piezas favoritas de música que hemos hecho recientemente.
Coexist es la idea central de esta letra. Que la religión se haya convertido en una razón para ir a la guerra nos parece una locura. Es fácil caer en la desesperación: hay tanto que temer, no solo porque nos rendimos a la guerra, sino porque no estamos haciendo lo suficiente para combatir amenazas existenciales reales como la emergencia climática.
La coexistencia puede parecer una idea ridícula en este momento. El hecho de que lo parezca la hace aún más convincente y vital. Como dicen, la noche es más oscura justo antes del amanecer.
